Well I am a little sad. Ripple has closed without ever posting the ATC I made back in June for them. But they did a tremendous job! They had over 900 art donations and raised over $11,090! And while many artists contributed, both unknown and well-known alike, there really was only one person running the Ripple blog, the person who got the whole things started, Kelly Light. She did an amazing job!

I still would like to offer my little bit of art to someone who donates. So I will send this off to the first person who donates to the National Wildlife Federation’s Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund and sends me the email confirmation of the donation. (Just fwd the email to bunnykissd [at] gmail.com.) If you're not interested, please pass the message on to others who might be! Thanks!

It's been a while since I talked about them, so I thought I'd rebroadcast some of the great things QuEST has been doing.

As you may remember from my post in June, QuEST has a team shop which, at the moment, is donating all profits to The Trevor Project. So far we've made just under $100 for them and would like to give them more. If you are able, please head over to our shop, check out the great items for sale there, and buy one to make your donation!

More recently we've been collecting items to donate to the Human Rights Campaign which will be auctioned off at their National Dinner in Washington DC this fall. There's some really great stuff pouring in for it; I donated one of my necklaces, similar to this one, and this postcard:

I can't wait to see what else ends up in the basket... And how much it goes for! ^-^

We're planning so many other wonderful things! Be sure to keep up-to-date with all the happenings by Liking our Facebook page and adding our blog to your reader!

But at least I could offer my own (and possibly more to come):

Faerie Gardens Family is not walking this year, but we still want to help support Mykel like we did last year!

Mykel says, "I am walking in the 18th Annual AIDS Walk/Run on Sunday, June 6 at Beaver Lake Nature Center. This event is a 5K walk and 10K run that benefits AIDS Community Resources (ACR) - a non-profit agency that serves nine counties in the Central, Northern and Mohawk Valley regions of New York State. 100% of the money raised from the AIDS Walk/Run stays right here in Central New York to pay for youth education programs that teach young people how to stay safe from HIV and STDs."

Your donation is tax deductible, and donating through First Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to Mykel's fund-raising efforts. Just click the banner below and thank you!

The NY State Senate has agreed to vote on the same-sex marriage bill before the year is through. Urge your senator to vote YES!

In a time when gays and lesbians are making strides toward equal rights, Amazon.com has taken a step back. A step back to a time when you didn't ask and didn't tell, a time when you hid your love for fear of persecution, a time when even the suspicion of homosexuality was enough to get beaten or even killed. Amazon.com has reclassified gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender books and movies as an adult product which blocks them from their sales rankings.

However, like Mark Probst said, "if they are really going to try and exclude so-called “adult” material, then how come this has an Amazon ranking?" And there are plenty of other *adult* themed books still ranked as well, as shown by this list. Curiously, if you put "homosexuality" into a search of their site, and you'll find books on "preventing" and "curing" homosexuality, but you won't find Brokeback Mountain or Tipping the Velvet or other previously high ranking books or movies.

Today, Amazon.com claims this was just a glitch that they are fixing now, but some authors lost their ranking way back in February, and only now is it getting any attention. And if it's just a glitch then why tell authors their books have been "classified as an Adult product" and "In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude "adult" material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature." Obviously that's not just a glitch.

Like so many others are twittering, AmazonFAIL! Please sign the petition.

Yesterday afternoon, the editor of Diversity Rules Magazine received hate mail threatening them to "CEASE AND DESIST" or suffer "a personal TUNEUP" adding that hate crime legislation will not stop them, even if they have to hire someone. I am utterly dumb-founded by such blatant bigotry that I don't know what to say. The police have been notified of course, and are investigating, but meanwhile, what do we do? I don't know for sure, but I do know that we can't just roll over and give in to their homophobic browbeating. We need to stand tall and face these cowardly bullies who hide behind anonymous email and find a way to stop the spread of such hatred, prejudice, and unfounded fear.

Never be bullied into silence.
Never allow yourself to be made a victim.
Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself.

~Harvey Fierstein, American actor and playwright

Straight Americans need... an education of the heart and soul.
They must understand - to begin with - how it can feel
to spend years denying your own deepest truths,
to sit silently through classes, meals, and church services
while people you love toss off remarks that brutalize your soul.

~Bruce Bawer, The Advocate, 28 April 1998

Mothers, tell your children:
be quick, you must be strong.
Life is full of wonder,
love is never wrong.

Remember how they taught you,
how much of it was fear.
Refuse to hand it down -
the legacy stops here.

~Melissa Etheridge, "Silent Legacy," Yes I Am, 1993

Please help however you can, subscribe, donate, or just spread the word...
