When my kids were younger I would color eggs and fill some plastic ones, hide them in the morning and the kids would find whatever they could (with some help, even though they were not too hard to find). As the kids got older, I let them help me color the eggs. I'd always make certain to write down how many eggs were hidden and the most difficult places (for me to remember) so that we wouldn't end up with a rotten egg or two in the summer. I also hid their baskets and gave them a clue to start with clues along the way, like a scavanger hunt. I did this one year for a birthday party with prizes hidden, it's fun watching them go from one clue to another and finally finding the treasure. A friend would also hide the small foil wrapped chocolate eggs around the house as the first hunt, they the kids would go out and find the other eggs. We all had such great fun. I too began giving them the amount each one could find, that way it was more fair.
